Concrete Driveways, Patios & Sidewalks

Exterior flatwork plays a large part in your home’s exterior appearance. It also affects access to your property, your maintenance load, and may or may not add to your enjoyment of exterior spaces. A well crafted patio or entryway can add greatly to your home’s visual appeal and functionality, while replacing a spalling or sunken driveway can greatly improve ease of snow-removal, pedestrian and vehicle access, and improves curb appeal. As with all our projects, we go above and beyond to complete high-quality work… here’s how…

Why our flatwork is superior:

our process

01 dESIGN CONSULTATION

We come out to your property and meet with you to discuss your goals for the project, and your budget. We'll also measure the project area and assess the conditions, so we completely understand what needs to be done to ensure success.

02 materials & FINISHES

We will give you appropriate options with regard to layout and finishes, and will create a contract to clearly indicate what we will do for you. Broom finish, hard hand finish, power trowelling, stamps, colors... we can do it all.

03 construction

With a focus on durability and strength, we will complete your product with the goal of creating a piece of flatwork which will provide decades of beautiful service, while also respecting your time and daily household needs.

Driveways

In addition to wearing of the wear-layer, most older homes will have some problems with concrete flat-work settling over time around the garage entry, and along the walk towards the front door. This is primarily a result of using inferior sub-grade materials, inadequate compaction, and improper steel installation. The techniques we use ensure that the new driveway shown here will NEVER settle or heave, and it will look as good as new for many years to come. Since we use 14mm aggregate in our driveways, if the driveway needs a refresh in 25 years time, the homeowner can simply sandblast the fields to create a partial exposed aggregate look, touch up the acid stain and sealer, essentially getting DOUBLE the life out of the same driveway.

Drag The Slider To See The Transformation

Adding an accessible entry.

This property required a handicapped accessible entry from the street in to the home’s walk-out basement. The only way to achieve this was to construct a ramp with 3-sided retaining wall to hold back the grades surrounding it. You can clearly see the compacted drain rock we use to control water, and additional steel to reinforce the vehicle tracks. To control surface water, there is a trench drain at the bottom of the ramp which drains out the rear of the lot. The slab is 5″ thick for additional strength, and the finish is 2-tone acid stain, smooth hand-finshed borders with lightly sandblasted, exposed aggregate fields. The final result is a beautiful and durable ramp which provides complete access to the home’s basement and exterior storage area, and it also provides additional off-street parking for RVs, trailers, or 3 vehicles.

A shaded outdoor retreat

Patios

Patios can be less expensive than decks, are often more appropriate than ground-level wooden platforms, and offer just as many design options. This outdoor living space was designed and built to provide the homeowners year-round utility, and protection from sun, rain and snow. The patio provides a durable non-slip, zero-maintenance floor, with steps up to the built-in BBQ and doors to the house. It also is more than strong enough to support the stunning custom timber-frame and cedar roof which tops it all off beautifully.

Sidewalks

A good sidewalk provides good grip, is easy to clear in the winter, is generally flat with consistent and comfortable steps when needed, but will still shed water. It won’t shift, or settle, or flake away over time. A safe, comfortable, durable, and beautiful sidewalk is something everyone who visits your property will see, so care and attention should be taken to make sure everything is done right. To the right is a simple 2-step walk exiting the rear of an Edgemont property. It’s exposed aggregate with a 2-tone acid stain and border. This walk will last beautifully for decades, and will NEVER move.
